ANDREW REDDEN ILLUSTRATION

MY ENGLAND

Pencil and Charcoal

These are the most challenging pictures to produce. Charcoal is the hardest of all mediums to master, a stick of burnt wood is all I use when creating a charcoal drawing. I don’t like to smudge, drag or smear the dust across the paper and I work from top left to bottom right to avoid disruption. I like to work on stretched watercolour papers and occasionally blow a little chalk dust to get extra highlights.
